Leo Lionni Leo Lionni

 Leo

Lionni

Leo Lionni is a spring time favorite. First graders are reading well enough to enjoy his books on their own or with a partner.

Focus Books:

"It's Mine"

"Swimmy"

"Fredrick"

"Fish is Fish"

"Inch by Inch"

What Happens:

  • Everyday we learn a few new facts about Leo Lionni.
  • Everyday I read a different Leo Lionni book and recall the previous stories read.
  • Our Literacy Workshop contains activities to go along with the focus books listed above.
  • Every student has a Leo Lionni book to take home and share with mom and dad. Students return the books each day and take home a new one (or the same book if they really loved it!).

ACTIVITIES:

  • Swimmy - Students use torn paper to create a fish.
  • Inch by Inch - Students us an inchworm ruler to measure items from our classroom.
  • Fish is Fish - Students create something from the fishes point of view. Similiar to the fish bird and fish people from the book.
  • Fredrick - Students create a Fredrick mouse from templates that I made. Students are free to add their own personalities to their mice. Students also create a background for their Fredrick and can glue their Fredrick to the background.
  • It's Mine - Students create a frog head with a curley frog tongue sticking out!
