   Simple Machines

The wheel helps move things.

The wheel makes it easier to do some tasks.

The wheel is not a machine unless it has an axle.

An axle is the object that attaches the wheel to the object  it's moving.

Wheels move to carry a heavy load.

Wheels help to reduce friction.

Friction is what happens when any two things rub against each other.

When you rub your hands together you can see and feel friction.

The inclined plane looks like a ramp.

The inclined plane makes it easier to move things.

The inclined plane raises a heavy load from a low place to a higher place.
