A map shows where things are.

Apartments are home for people.

Some maps show where people live.

The four basic directions are north, south, east, and west.

On a map north is up, south is down, west is on the left, and east is on the right.

A compass rose shows the four basic directions on a map.

The letter N stands for north.

The letter S stands for south.

The letter E stands for east.

The letter W stands for west.

On a compass rose North is on the top, south is on the bottom, West and East spell "WE".

A map key has the symbols that are on a map.
